Sentill Was Here

I am really having trouble keeping up with this blogging thingy. Especially this past two months as we have been having back to back visits. Since June, we have had my sister and brother-in-law, my wife's parents, Sentill and most recently, the crazy gang of 5. I'll focus more on Sentill's visit in this post.

We picked Sentill up from the airport on 4 August, Thursday at 5.00am in the morning. That is usually the flight that most of our guests arrive in as there are only two international flights from Singapore daily. After picking him up, we headed home, had a bit of a chat and he went to catch some sleep while we headed to work. I had taken the afternoon off, so I went home to meet Sentill for lunch where we had lunch at The Cavenagh. That evening, I had a photography meeting to attend. Therefore, Sangeetha brought Sentill to check out Mindil Markets as well as the opening celebrations of the Darwin festival. The intention thereafter was to head to Stokes Hill Wharf for dinner. However, Stokes Hill Wharf in the dry season is usually not the easiest of places to find parking in the evenings. With that not panning out as intended, Sang and Sentill drove to Woolies to get some much needed supplies and got home to prepare a simple dinner. When I got home, I saw that they had gotten Snickers ice-cream. Oh shiiiiit... 10 minutes later, it was Navin 2 - 2 Sentill. That pretty much summed up Thursday.

The Road to Kakadu
Amazing Ubirr
On Friday, we drove to Kakadu National Park. We wanted to show Sentill the back country as well as experience the beauty of Ubirr with him. It was a fun drive as always. I love those drives to Kakadu! We got to Kakadu Lodge where the receptionist actually remembered Sang from our previous visit with her parents. This time, the three of us shared one room. After spending an hour resting up, we continued for another 40 min to Ubirr. Needless to say, Ubirr was special. It was all the more special when I found out that I had carried all my photography equipment in vain as I had forgotten to load an SD card. I think I have lost count how many times this has happened to me.

Sentill at Kakadu Bakery
Anyways, we ended up just watching the wonderful sun set in awe and chatting up. We were also the last to leave Ubirr. We then drove back to the Kakadu Lodge where we had a nice meal and a few drinks at the restaurant before calling it a night.

Master chef at work

The following morning, we stopped by at Kakadu Bakery before beginning the 3-hour drive back to Darwin. Midway through, we stopped for Sentill to go for the jumping crocodile cruise. He seemed to enjoy it very much albeit going for it alone as we had done it twice before. Once home in the late afternoon, we got about an hour of rest and then adjourned to Richard's place for a party that he and Jules had invited all of us to. It was good fun with lots of red wine (needless to say) and very good food. We got a chance to meet with some of Richard's friends as well.

On Sunday, it was a day of rest and relaxing at home. We got down to playing some Winning Eleven to relive the good ol' days and prepared meals at home as well. On Monday, Sang went to work while I had taken the day off. We got up late after watching Man Utd win Leicester City in the Charity Shield. We then went straight for lunch at Asian Pot and Sentill then tried his hand at some rounds of Roulette in the casino. We rendezvoused with Sang in the evening where we spent time doing the typical Darwinian activity of watching the sunset from Cullen Bay with drinks in hand.

Us at Cullen Bay
Dinner with Pearl and Sid
With darkness enveloping Cullen Bay, we moved into the nearby restaurant for a round of dinner buffet. Pearl and Sid joined us for that as well and it was another memorable evening for everyone. The following afternoon, Sentill was off to the airport. His stay had come to an abrupt end (or so it felt). He had been here for five days but it barely felt like 5 days. We were grateful that he had paid us a visit and we hope he had a good time experience life in Darwin.
