How it All Started

It was 2013 and we were on a beach in Bali wondering how we could inject some adventure into our lives. We have always loved travelling and being avid nature lovers, we toyed with the idea of moving to New Zealand. Upon return to Singapore, we signed up for a 'Migrate to New Zealand' seminar. It was one of those where if you paid an additional $100 or thereabouts, you would get to talk to a consultant in private. The seminar was inspiring and we looked at each other thinking, "This could be us!"

Lo and behold, NZ seemed a long shot for us. The consultant was honest and said that unless we could quit our jobs in Singapore and spend a couple of months in NZ to look for a permanent job, the chances of getting a Work Visa was as good as David Moyes' Manchester United winning the league. Instead, the consultant advised us that a better route to NZ would be through Australia. The key difference here was that New Zealand offered their Work Visa to those who had already gotten jobs while Australia issued Permanent Residency to applicants based on their job prospects. Simply put, we did not need to be employed to attain a Work Visa in Australia.

Deflated that NZ had to be put on hold, we turned our attention to Australia. After meeting up with a few agents, we decided with one and started the application process.

So that is it for now. In our next post, we will briefly talk about the application process that led up to us receiving the Visa. Till then, stay happy!
